Course Description
This class includes both lectures and labs aiming to introduce general principles and commonly used instruments for analytical chemistry used in environmental studies. Class materials will focus on analyzing trace organic pollutants in the aqueous environments.
Course Objective
Topics such as sampling & pretreatment, spectroscopy, chromatography, mass spectroscopy and QA/QC are covered in the lectures. Lab experiments include extraction methods (SPE, LLE, Soxhlet), chromatography (IC, GC, LC), ICP-OES, LC-MS/MS and LC-TOF.
Course Requirement
There will be five pre-labs and four lab reports. Pre-labs are questions designed to help students to prepare for the laboratory exercise and they will be given a week before the lab and due at beginning of that laboratory exercise.
