Course Description
This course teaches how to make basic calculations involved in air pollution control engineering. Specifically, it has to do with the cleaning of gases by the removal of particulate matters. It is devoted to presenting basic (scientific) principles and basic (engineering) calculations involved in the design of particulate collection systems.
Course Objective
The first half part of this course will cover the basic scientific principles. This includes the methods of describing particulate systems, an overview of the fundamental concepts of collection, and the physics of particle behavior.
The second half will deal with the modeling processes of cyclone, filter, electrostatic precipitation, and scrubbers. Students shall learn how to build models for other devices that may be developed.
